About these terms

This website and the Critical Developments Account service are operated by First Principles Works Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 17417548, trading as Critical Developments.

By using the website or Account service you agree to these terms. If you use them for a school or another organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to act for it. If a separate customer agreement applies, that agreement governs the purchased product and takes priority where the two documents conflict.

Accounts and access

Accounts are invitation-only. Access depends on a valid school membership, the school’s configured sign-in method and its current product entitlements. Signing in successfully does not by itself grant membership or a product licence.

You must use your own account, keep authentication methods secure and tell your school administrator or us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. School administrators are responsible for keeping memberships and roles current. We may suspend a session, membership or entitlement where needed to protect people, data or the service.

Acceptable use

You must not:

• try to access another school, account, product or record without permission;
• share credentials, bypass security controls or interfere with the service;
• upload unlawful, malicious or deliberately misleading material;
• use the service to harass, discriminate against or endanger another person; or
• reverse engineer or copy protected parts of the service except where the law expressly permits it.

Schools remain responsible for their professional, safeguarding and statutory decisions. The tools support judgement; they do not replace it.

Product licences

Each product is licensed independently unless the customer agreement says otherwise. A request, trial, invitation, payment message or identity-provider membership does not activate access. Activation requires a valid commercial licence and the matching entitlement in the Critical Developments Account service.

Licence duration, charges, renewal, suspension, data return and deletion are set out in the customer agreement, order or schedule for that school.

Intellectual property

The website, product software, visual identity and original materials belong to First Principles Works Limited or its licensors. Schools and users keep ownership of the material they lawfully supply. The customer agreement gives the school the rights needed to use the licensed product for its internal work.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the website and Account service secure and available, but maintenance, provider incidents and urgent security work can interrupt access. We may change these public terms when the service, law or our business changes. Material changes will be dated here and communicated where appropriate.

Nothing in these terms limits any right or liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Service commitments, remedies and the governing law for paid products are set out in the applicable customer agreement.
